Introduction (texte Franšais)
Armen Gasparian's well-deserved reputation as a California "colourist" painter grew from when he first settled in Laguna Beach in the early 1960s. During the 1970s, he was instructor of landscape and figurative painting at the Laguna Beach School of Art, presently, the Art Institute of Southern California.
Gasparian moved to England in 1980 where he worked in the Cotswold countryside in Gloucestershire. After ten years, he moved his studio again, this time to Paris, France where he now resides while maintaining, as always, a pied-Ó-terre in Laguna Beach, California.
The paintings shown here are but a small cross section of his works spanning these periods. The California and Dory Series' contain works from 1975 to 1985. The English Series dates from 1980 to 1990. The French Series canvases are from 1990 on. All the paintings in this retrospective are in private collections in both the United States and Europe.
